How Does this Program Support Our Mission?
Promotes WASTE REDUCTION by encouraging REUSE of discarded or unwanted materials and items through UPCYCLING.
Who Is This Program Best Suited For?
OPEN TO ALL AGES of individuals and groups e.g. schools, families, clubs and organizations on Hawai‘i Island.
When Is This Program Available?
ALL YEAR
How Does This Program Work?
*Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless and/or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upcycling
Participants demonstrate RECLAIM, RECREATE or REPURPOSE of unwanted materials and items by upcycling them into art, craft, functional and inventive products, which are showcased online at Recycle Hawaii’s Website Gallery/Facebook.
CRITERIA FOR ENTRIES:
1. Design, assembly, method or technique is by registrant; unique, original or one-of-a-kind.
2. Made from reused materials with limited use of new items.
3. Demonstrate one or more of the following: 
  • Reclaim
  • Recreate
  • Repurpose
  • Zero Waste
  • Island Sustainability
  • Preserve/Protect Hawai‘i’s Native Species</
