The Reuse Center program consists of operating six (6) Reuse Centers located at the following Solid Waste Transfer Stations: Hilo, Keaʻau, Pāhoa, Waimea, Kealakehe (Kailua-Kona) & Keauhou. We manage these six (6) sites under a contract with the County of Hawaiʻi. This program’s purpose is to divert reusable items from the landfills and increase recycling. In addition we provide public education and outreach regarding resource management, waste reduction, recycling, zero waste and reuse opportunities. The program is a critical component of the County’s program to divert waste from landfills and increase reuse and recycling island‐wide.
We are able to keep our education and outreach efforts free to the public through the proceeds raised from donated items we resell at one of out 6 Reuse Centers located around the island.
