The Arts & Crafts of UPCycling* 2017

The Arts & Crafts of UPCycling Project promotes the reduction of waste going into the landfill by extending the life of valuable resources.

*Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless and/or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.

Participants will demonstrate how they REUSE, RECREATE, REPURPOSE or RECLAIM unwanted materials and items to upcycle into art, craft, functional or inventive products.

Criteria for entries:

  1. Design, assembly, method or technique done by registrant is original.
  2. Made primarily from reusable materials with limited use of new or non-recyclable items.
  3. One or more of the following areas are demonstrated:
    • Reuse
    • Repurpose
    • Recreate
    • Preserving/Protecting Hawai‘i’s Natural Environment
    • Island Sustainability
    • Zero Waste

OPEN TO ALL AGES of individuals and groups e.g. schools, families, clubs and organizations on Hawai‘i Island. REGISTER for free by email or fax by April 29, 2017. FINAL ENTRY information, photo and photography release due by May 13, 2017. Selected entries will appear in a virtual gallery on Recycle Hawaii’s Facebook page; viewers can vote for the People’s Choice Award.
